Adv-Beginning Level (Two Textbooks)
The Japan Foundation’s Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture Elementary 1 (A2) Katsudoo Coursebook (ISBN978-4-384-05754-6 C0081) AND Marugoto Rikai A2 「まるごと初級1A2りかい」are used for Advanced Beginning level classes

Advanced Level

Kids Class
Instructor: Rina sensei
This class is for kids in first grade or older with no previous Japanese language experience. No prerequisites are required.
At the end of the course, a successful student will:
-Be able to say a simple self-introduction and talk about your family
-Be able to talk about your favorite foods & drinks
-Be able to order food at a restaurant
Youth Class
Instructor: Yuriko sensei
Teens ages 12 to 15 are welcome to join this class. The textbook, primarily designed for junior high and high school students, teaches Japanese fundamentals such as speaking, listening, reading, writing, and Japanese culture. The class topics involve Japanese school life, and students can engage in the activities in a fun and enjoyable manner.
No previous Japanese language experience is required
Beginning 1
Instructor: Yuriko sensei
This class is for students with no previous Japanese language experience.
No prerequisites are required.
Lessons to be covered; 1-6
At the end of the course, a successful student will:
-Be able to say a simple self-introduction and talk about your family
-Be able to talk about your favorite foods & drinks
-Be able to order food at a restaurant
Beginning 2
Instructor: Yuri sensei
This class is the continuation of Beg 1. This class also fits learners with limited language experience including self-study, study at high school/college in the past, etc.
Lessons to be covered; 7-12
If you can:
-give a simple self-introduction
-briefly talk about your family and favorite food/drinks
-talk with a friend where to go lunch
-read hiragana
This class is a good fit for you.
Beginning 3
Instructor: Nao sensei
This class is the continuation of Beg 2. This class also fits learners with limited language experience including self-study, study at high school/college in the past, etc.
Lessons to be covered; 13-18
If you can:
-talk about your daily schedule
-talk about your hobbies and what you do on your days off
-talk about the existence of inanimate things using “あります” and “ありません”
-ask someone if they would like to do something using “〜ませんか”.
-read hiragana and katakana.
This class is a good fit for you.
New structure for our Adv-Beginning Japanese language levels🎊
It's divided into six distinct courses to enhance your learning experience and language abilities.
Adv-Beginning 1A will cover Lessons 1-3.
Adv-Beginning 1B will cover Lessons 4-6.
Adv-Beginning 2A will cover Lessons 7-9.
Adv-Beginning 2B will cover Lessons 10-12.
Adv-Beginning 3A will cover Lessons 13-15.
Adv-Beginning 3B will cover Lessons 16-18.
To solidify your comprehensive language skills, including conversational ability, both the Marugoto A2 Katsudoo and A2 Rikai textbooks are required for this level.
For students who may be repeating lessons, please note that the class content has been updated to cover new material in reading, kanji, grammar, and writing.

Adv-Beginning 1 -B
Instructor: Yoko sensei
This class is the continuation of Beginning 3. This class also fits for those with previous language experience equivalent to our beginning 3 level. To participate in this class, students are expected to read both hiragana and katakana. There is no Romaji reading aid in the textbook for this level. The instructor will use Japanese in the classroom to some extent.
Lessons to be covered; 4-6
If you can:
- say your activities using verbs in the past tense
- make a brief comment with i-adjectives/na-adjectives
- give a simple direction using a map
Adv-Beginning 2-B
Instructor: Kristi sensei
Lessons to be covered; 10-12
This is the continuous class from Adv-Beg.1. The class fits for those who studied Japanese at college/high school in the past or self-study for about 60 hours or so. Some kanji will be introduced in this class. Students are expected to read both hiragana and katakana. There is no Romaji reading aid for this level.
Adv-Beginning 3-B
Instructor: TBD
This is the continuous class from Adv-Beginning 2. The class also fits those who previously studied Japanese at college/high school for one year or self-studied accumulative of 80 hours. Students are expected to read hiragana, katakana, and some basic kanji. There is no Romaji reading aid for this level.
Lessons to be covered: 15-18
If you (can):
- understand te-form of verbs and te-form of adjectives
- use te-form to express simple commands and sequences of events
- express the past tense of verbs and adjectives
- create a compound sentence using a conjunction word
Advanced
Instructor: TBD
Designed as a seamless continuation for our dedicated learners, this class is also an excellent fit for those with prior language experience and a foundational understanding of kanji characters. Through immersive conversations and challenging exercises, you'll refine your language skills and deepen your understanding of Japanese linguistic nuances and cultural contexts.

Minimum enrollment of four students is required to offer a class.
Japan America Society of Oklahoma reserves the right to cancel the courses due to low enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. Students who have already enrolled in the class will receive a full refund.
Students must be 16 years of age and older to participate in adult classes.
The full enrollment fee must be paid before the first class.
Students may change a class before the cancellation deadline depending on availability.
Students may enroll after the first class with the instructor’s approval. Students are required to pay the full amount of tuition.
Students' contact information collected from the registration process may be given to the instructor for teaching and/or emergency purposes.
The instructor reserves the right to remove any individual from the classroom if their behavior poses a threat to the safety, well-being, or orderly conduct of the class.
The cancellation deadline for a tuition refund is 7 days prior to September 2, the start date. Cancellation requests must be received via email at language@japanoklahoma.org If a notice of cancellation is received within 7 days before the starting date, tuition is non-refundable and non-transferrable for any reason.

Classes canceled due to holidays, instructor’s emergencies or unforeseen circumstances will be rescheduled.
While we try to provide as much consistency as possible, there may be occasions for adjustment to class schedule, location, and instructor.
If there are no students present within first 20 minutes of the scheduled class, that class will be canceled and will not be rescheduled.
There are no make-up classes or refund if students miss a class.
